Back in February, Kelly and I traveled to the Philippines.
We stayed for 2 and a half weeks which wasn't long enough. We visited beautiful islands, ate great dishes and met some amazing people. I'm so lucky to have traveled with my other half across the world. Best travel buddy ever! He truly embraced the culture. I will have to write a post on the trip later.
The last 2 days of the trip were what I have been dreaming of my entire life. I finally got to meet my Aunt and cousins! Not all of them were able to travel to Manila, but I met a majority of them. I've always wondered who they were, what their personalities were like and if we would get along. Everything was perfect. I'm so happy I got to meet them.
Being so far away from my extended family is not easy. My mother and I have never been able to attend family events. Before our 2014 trip, I found out that my cousin, Juvy, was getting married in November. Since I knew we weren't going to attend the wedding; I wanted to give her something that I cherished.
My wedding dress.
Filipino weddings reflect strong traditions of family and symbolism. Filipino wedding ceremonies typically involved many people. The principal sponsors (aka Ninang and Ninong) are women and men who the bride and groom respect & admire. Kelly and I were asked to be principal sponsors. We are very grateful for being given such a big role.
Juvy is a beautiful person with such a big heart. Since February we have been sending each other messages on Facebook. I'm so sad that I missed being part of her special day.
A gorgeous bride on her way to her handsome groom.
Cheers to Juvy and Gerbet!
