DIY Weekend

My name is Jen Nyquist, and I am a DIY procrastinator.
I have all these images on Pinterest boards, craft ideas in my head and materials laying around the house.
I figured it was a good weekend to dust off the diy skillsand get started.
Check out my new decor for my craft room!

The renovation is almost complete! Next stop: sanity.

Athcation

 It seems to be the routine that mid-way through a renovation, Kelly and I get fed up with the dust & disorder and head up to Athens for the weekend
Lucky us we got to spend quality time with the other Nyquists.
 Ben ran a half marathon while we were up there.
Kel and I watched Kate for a few hours while the B&B picked up their new electric car.

 Here are some snaps I took of little ms Kate.
She is at a fun age where everything makes her smile.
Callie's playmates for the weekend- Stanley and Wrigs
Thanks for the Athcation

Happy Birthday Mom!

May you always smile.
May you share memories of the good old days.
May you continue to be surrounded by fashionable friends
May your hair styles be short lived.
May you keep those you love close.
May you know you've raised a strong woman who takes after you.
May you always strike a pose.
May all your birthday wishes come true
We love you!

Construction zone

Here is a little update on our renovation.
The contractors ripped up every single piece of brown shag rug in the house.
Laid down oak hardwood in the upstairs foyer
 Isn't it beautiful!
The first floor bathroom was demolished, tub and all the fixings removed.
We decided to take down the wall that was in between the vanity and toilet to open up the space.
The carpet was removed from the mudroom
 The laminate was removed only to find more laminate underneath.
 During the winter we noticed this room was freezing. We found out the walls are concrete, so we tore down the drywall, added insulation and installed new drywall.

Our Oasis

Our family is enjoying our little slice of paradise.
The grounds are easier to maintain and provide more colorful flowers.
A horticulturist told us we have a great selection of shrubs and flowers.
I know we have hydrangeas, butterfly bushes, peonies, and creeping jenny in the yard.
The others
 The fescue has done well after the aeration and overseeing
 The deer seem to be disinterested in my hostas this time around
 The azaleas had some frost bite but seem to have recovered and are blooming
Our deck is ready for porch sitting
Bring on the warm weather!

Round Two

Turning our house into a home has been quiet the adventure.
We had our first renovation back in July and are about to start our second renovation.
This will be the last for while.
After living in the house for almost a year, little things in the house started to bother us:
the bright turquoise walls;
 orange walls;
animals painted on the walls,
the beige walls and ceiling in our master bedroom;
the brown shag carpet in all the bedrooms and foyer.

The WISH list:
1) Redo of the first floor bathroom;
Did we NEED to renovate the bathroom? Probably not.
Back in July, we removed a half bathroom in between our kitchen and living room. So we decided to spruced up the only full bathroom on the first floor next to the guest room. The shower was leaking so it made our decision to gut the bathroom that much easier;
2) Upgrade mudroom;
As for the mudroom, its our main entrance. Sure we have a front door but we park the cars in the garage so we figured why not make the mudroom more appealing to us.
Sorry I don't have a before photo, the mudroom had laminate flooring that looked like stone and the brown carpet on the stairs. Yuck!

3) Change out dated light fixtures
Maybe I have been watching too much HGTV but I truly believe that the right light fixtures make a room inviting. The current ones in our house were not heavy and reminiscent of a female body part.
So that past few weeks have been busy picking out tile, choosing paint colors,
selecting tile & carpet, purchasing light fixtures and more.

Are you exhausted yet? We are too.
  I started my dream job and love it!
